Targeting the Middle Eastern market for women's sportswear – what to focus on when selecting interlinings

SHENGHONG SHENGHONG 2026-07-30 14:20:46

Women's sportswear developed for the Middle Eastern market commonly features long sleeves, long lengths, and loose-fitting designs, with fabrics mostly being stretch knits, lightweight synthetics, or functional materials. Brands and manufacturers need to consider not only coverage, comfort, and freedom of movement, but also ensure that zipper plackets, collars, hood openings, pockets, and other areas remain flat and resistant to distortion.

If the interlining is too stiff, it restricts the fabric's stretch and affects the garment's drape; if too soft, it fails to stabilize plackets and pocket openings. Therefore, this type of sportswear cannot use the same interlining for the entire garment; different treatments should be applied according to fabric type and location.China Shenghong Knit Interlining Factory

ⅠAddress the waving issue at the zipper placket first

Long-length sports jackets have long zipper plackets, and the stretchy fabric is prone to waviness after sewing. For this area, start by trying a lightweight, soft, and somewhat stretchable knit fusible interlining, which provides basic stability to the placket while avoiding stiffness in the front body.

The interlining width only needs to cover the zipper seam allowance and areas prone to stretching; it is not recommended to extend it over the entire front panel. After fusing, sew a sample with an actual zipper first. If waviness persists, switch to a slightly more stable interlining; if the placket feels significantly stiffer than the body, choose a thinner, softer interlining, or reduce the interlining application area.China Shenghong Sportswear Interlining Manufacturer

ⅡHandle collars and hood openings according to style

For basic round necks and hooded necklines, the main need is to prevent stretching and distortion; use a lightweight knit interlining for local reinforcement. Stand collars on sports jackets require a clearer shape – try a soft woven fusible interlining, but do not pursue excessive stiffness, otherwise the collar will press against the neck and be inconvenient to fold.

The hood opening generally only needs edge stabilization. If the style includes a visor/bill, you may use a slightly firmer interlining separately for the visor area without fusing the entire hood. After sampling, check whether the hood opening falls naturally and whether the visor curls easily.

ⅢReinforce only stress-bearing points for pockets and drawstring holes

Long-length sportswear often features zippered pockets, patch pockets, or drawstring details. Pocket openings are prone to stretching after repeated use; you can add a narrow strip of interlining on the reverse side of the opening. For zippered pockets, focus on reinforcing the zipper seam allowance without fusing the entire pocket piece.

For drawstring holes, buttonholes, and other stress points, use small pieces of interlining for local reinforcement. Cuffs and hems with ribbing, elastic, or stretch panels generally should not be fused arbitrarily, so as not to affect their original stretch.

ⅣComplete full component samples before bulk production

For stretch fabrics, do not judge by fusing only a small piece. During sampling, create actual component samples for the zipper placket, collar or hood opening, pocket openings, etc., and complete fusing and sewing.

When inspecting, focus on four points: whether the placket is flat, whether fabric stretch is noticeably reduced, whether interlining edges leave visible marks on the right side, and whether bubbling or wrinkling appears after repeated stretching. When fabric weight, color, elasticity, or surface finish changes, re-test the interlining; do not simply carry over the previous solution.

Conclusion

When developing women's sportswear for the Middle Eastern market, the focus of interlining selection is not to increase overall garment stiffness, but to solve specific issues such as placket waviness, collar distortion, visor curling, and pocket opening stretching. One garment may use knit interlinings, woven interlinings, or other fusibles for different areas. Always complete component samples first, then finalize the bulk production plan.
